BLine Urban DeliveryPEDALING PIZZA

Pizzicato is partnering with local startup “BLine” to spread the word about sustainable urban delivery.  BLine operates a fleet of trikes that pull small trailers filled with products that need to get to and fro within Portland.  This reduces congestion and C02 emissions in our downtown core, and in many cases delivers products to their destinations in less time.  If you see one of the trikes with a quirky Pizzicato message, please wave to the friendly rider.  He or she just might have some ‘free slice’ coupons for you! WHAT MAKES OUR CRUST SO GOOD?

Easy.  The flour we use is harvested in our own back yard:  Pendleton, Oregon.  Picture vast, lush and rolling acres of Eastern Oregon wheat, cultivated with care and milled into nutritious, unbleached flour. We did some quick calculations and found that Pizzicato purchases over 200 tons of high gluten ‘Power Flour’ EVERY YEAR from  Pendleton Flour Mills. So if buying local is as important to you as it is to us, you can actually feel proud to eat at Pizzicato. We’re honored to work with Pendleton Flour Mills and our other local partners.

We now make our great selection of Panini with Lovejoy Bakers’ artisan Ciabatta rolls. You can see from the picture how light and airy they are, and their super flavor makes our sandwiches taste even better than before. Choose from Fresh Mozzarella, Roast Turkey, Salami, Tuna, Black Forest Ham, Spinach & Feta, and Traditional Meatball. We warm them slightly in the oven before serving, and you also get your choice of a house or caesar side salad, all for just $6.95.

IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER THAN A BLT?

We don’t think so, which is why we created our own version —  minus the bread. We call it the “PLT Wedge.” P stands for Pancetta (Italian bacon) which we crumble along with gorgonzola on top of a quarter wedge of fresh iceberg lettuce. Ripe cherry tomatoes add sweetness, and although we think blue cheese dressing goes best, you can choose from ranch or our balsamic vinaigrette. We offer it in one size only, medium, so it will make 2 people very happy, especially at only $6.00.

INTRODUCING PIZZICATO “BITES”

As mentioned in the previous post, we’ve made some refreshing changes to our menu. At the top of the list is our new appetizer section which we call “bites.” All items are priced at $3.95 so you can mix and match. Pictured here is the Pizzicato breadstick, filled with melted mozzarella cheese and accompanied by marinara dipping sauce. We’ve also added a warm artichoke and spinach dip and a kalamata hummus plate (in addition to our traditional hummus). ‘Special’ bites will also be offered in the coming months. See a sample of our new menu.

Look for the ‘n’ on our menu!  We are pleased to announce that we have added some delightful new menu items. From new appetizers we call “bites” to a delicious vegan pizza (Thai and Tofu) and a new salad called the ‘P’ (as in Pancetta) -L-T Wedge that’s destined to become a classic.  Also new, is our Panini – now served warm with Lovejoy Baker’s (Link) artisan Ciabatta rolls that are light, airy and make our sandwiches taste even better than before.  Our new menu format is easier to read and helps those with dietary restrictions easily order their Pizzicato favorites vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free.

EVERY MONTH – RAIN OR SHINE – A SEASONAL PIZZA

Spring and summer aren’t the only growing seasons in the Northwest. Just ask Ben, our resident foodie and executive pizza chef. Earthy fall mushrooms, sweet winter squash and fresh herbs grown all year round make their way to our monthly pizza specials that feature the freshest seasonal produce.  Of course, Ben’s favorite season is summer — when heirloom tomatoes make their way from the fertile ground to Pizzicato kitchens.  These purple, red, green and yellow beauties top the Pizzicato “Fresca,” a Ben original that we bring back for the summer months.

THIS 20-YEAR-OLD GOT A MUCH NEEDED FACELIFT

Funny thing, now you can get older and better. Pizzicato Sylvan, our very first Pizzicato, is celebrating its 20th birthday with a “new” look. Well not really new, because we used recycled, reused, and repurposed materials for the remodel. The pendant lights were made from empty olive oil cans. The eating counter and wood paneling were made from reclaimed White Oak, a tree indigenous to the Northwest. The wine rack was rescued from another restaurant and refinished to its original splendor.
